Confidence comes from doing difficult things.
Notice I say “from doing difficult things.” I didn’t say “from succeeding in doing difficult things”
Nor “from overcoming difficult things.” Because we don’t always succeed or overcome.
Sometimes we fail. We get things wrong, we overestimate or underestimate.
If we tie our confidence to the result … we are in for a rough ride.
If we tie our confidence to the effort … we always win.
We cannot control what is outside of us. The best laid plans might backfire. But if we constantly worry about that … we will never take chances. And herein lies the magic: showing up.
By simply making the decision to face a challenge, regardless of the outcome, you are taking a step toward building your confidence. Every time you show up to those difficult moments, you’re telling yourself, “I am capable. I am worthy of this challenge.” Over time, the act of showing up, more than the outcome itself, becomes the foundation of your confidence.
It’s not about how many times you fall, but how many times you get back up.. With each rise, you deposit a little more into your confidence bank.
But what if you fail?
Embarrassing? Yes. Life-ending? For most of us, no.
Embrace it. Every failure is a lesson. Every misstep is a chance to grow. Because with every setback, there’s an opportunity to come back stronger, wiser, and with even more determination.
So the next time you’re faced with a daunting task, don’t shy away. Show up, give it your best shot, and know that regardless of the result, you are building the kind of confidence that is rooted in resilience and perseverance.
Let your confidence be rooted in an unwavering belief that you can, and will, show up for yourself, every single time.
Start there, and watch the possibilities begin to unfold.
